This distinctive vintage kokeshi by Usaburo honours Takeda Shingen (1521–1573), the legendary daimyo of Kai Province and one of the most formidable military leaders of Japan’s Sengoku era. Known as the “Tiger of Kai,”Shingen was celebrated for his brilliant strategy, strict discipline, and enlightened governance. His clan banner bore the famous Buddhist motto, Fūrinkazan – “Swift as the wind, silent as the forest, fierce as fire, and immovable as the mountain” – a philosophy that defined his leadership both in battle and in rule.
This Usaburo doll’s painted details and Showa retro aesthetic capture this sense of strength and authority, reimagined through the warmth of traditional kokeshi craftsmanship. The natural wood grain and time-softened finish enhance its quietly commanding presence, making it a meaningful tribute to one of Japan’s most iconic figures.
A characterful display piece for collectors, history enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates the deep narrative woven into Japan’s artistic traditions.

・ Avoid direct sunlight
Display indoors away from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn and fading. Even if you avoid direct sunlight, the color may gradually fade on some kokeshi depending on the amount of light and aging.
・ Do not leave in high temperature humidity
Avoid displaying it near heat sources or in humid places as it may cause discoloration, mold and cracks.
・ Do not get wet
Avoid washing or wiping kokeshi dolls with water. The paint may peel off, discolor, or crack the wood as it dries.
・ Gently wipe off dust
Remove dust by stroking it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub it strongly or wipe it with a wet cloth as it may cause scratches or discoloration.
