Our Teien no Mado (Garden Windows) Obi handbag is a one-of-a-kind piece handcrafted from a vintage Japanese obi (帯) – a 100% pure silk sash traditionally worn with kimono.
On a backdrop of deep black silk, bold gold lines form a grid of frames within which nature quietly lives; kiku (chrysanthemum) for resilience, ume (plum) for renewal, momiji (maple leaves) for graceful change, and delicate wisteria in soft pinks and purples, symbolizing love and humility. The structured elegance of the design reflects both order and organic flow, like small windows looking into a traditionally sculpted Japanese garden.
The handle is crafted from a obijime cord - another traditional kimono accessory - and the hand-braided silk fibers offer a soft yet structured grip; tradition literally held in hand. A decorative red tassel sways with movement, while two inner pockets provide added functionality. The magnetic gold button seals this one of a kind bag, now ready for a new adventure.
All of our kimono and obi remake items are handcrafted from authentic vintage Japanese silk that was no longer in wearable condition. By giving these exquisite textiles a new lease on life, we honor their craftsmanship and extend their stories into exciting new chapters.
