Our Hana Karakusa Obi Handbag is a one-of-a-kind piece handcrafted from a vintage Japanese obi (帯) – a 100% pure silk sash traditionally worn with kimono.
Silver silk is adorned with black kikkō (亀甲) –the hexagonal turtle shell motif symbolizing longevity, wisdom, and protection – each of which is rimmed with shimmering gold. Within the hexagon, delicate hana karakusa (flowering arabesque) patterns unfurl like vines in a hidden imperial garden; symbols of eternal growth and prosperity where geometry and nature entwine.
The handle is crafted from a obijime cord - another traditional kimono accessory - and the hand-braided silk fibers offer a soft yet structured grip; tradition literally held in hand. A decorative red tassel sways with movement, while two inner patterned pockets provide, in equal measure, beauty and functionality. The magnetic gold button seals this one of a kind bag, now ready for a new adventure.
All of our kimono and obi remake items are handcrafted from authentic vintage Japanese silk that was no longer in wearable condition. By giving these exquisite textiles a new lease on life, we honor their craftsmanship and extend their stories into exciting new chapters.

To preserve the beauty of your silk obi handbag:
• Spot clean only with a gentle cloth. Never use harsh detergents or bleach.
• Keep dry and avoid exposure to rain, humidity, or damp surfaces. Silk is a natural fiber that may warp or stain if wet.
• Store in a cool, dry place, ideally inside a breathable cotton dust bag. Avoid plastic containers or direct sunlight to prevent fading, and we recommend storing with cedar blocks to deter pests.
