Our Purple Tsuru Obi Handbag is a one-of-a-kind piece handcrafted from a vintage Japanese obi (帯) – a 100% pure silk sash traditionally worn with kimono.
A golden tsuru (crane) takes flight across a field of soft cream silk, its outstretched wings brushed in regal purple. Woven into the background is delicate rinzu, a jacquard-like silk weaving technique, its subtle patterns catching the light. In Japanese tradition, the crane is a sacred symbol of longevity, fidelity, and good fortune, its elegance an emblem of hope and peace. The rich textures and graceful palette create the impression of a dream in motion.
The handle is crafted from a obijime cord - another traditional kimono accessory - and the hand-braided silk fibers offer a soft yet structured grip; tradition literally held in hand. A decorative tassel sways with movement, while two inner patterned pockets provide, in equal measure, beauty and functionality. The magnetic gold button seals this one of a kind bag, now ready for a new adventure.
All of our kimono and obi remake items are handcrafted from authentic vintage Japanese silk that was no longer in wearable condition. By giving these exquisite textiles a new lease on life, we honor their craftsmanship and extend their stories into exciting new chapters.
